Our farm located just south of Owatonna near Blooming Prairie, north of Austin,MN and Albert Lea MN, west of Rochester and east of Mankato,MN in the beautiful agricultural country of south central Minnesota, has been in Dan's family since the 1940's. Dan and Leona were married in 1975 took over the family farm to raise hogs farrow to finish and crop farming.

Leona's Dad, Andrew Dolney was a horse lover, his dad raised regitered Belgians in northeast SouthDakota about 1910-1940s. Andrew purchased an Arabian stud in 1956 and began to raise horses for children, crossing the stud with pony mares. Raising some outstanding versital childrens cattle ponies and gamers. Leona and several of her siblings raise and train horses today. Leona's sister Barbara Hoover has an Arab farm near Tacoma WA Called YellowRose Arabians. Barb and her daughter Kristi train and show gorgeous horses.

Leona's father gave her a yearling filly as a wedding gift. Coming from a horse background, Leona trained her horse Nickers to drive and she was pulling a cart by October. Leona was just beginning a long road to riding instruction and horse training. Leona and Dan raised 5 children who all participated in 4-H, FFA, saddle clubs along with horse related activities. Both Jenny & Mary-Rose have gone to state competitions with their horses. Leona trained her children to train horses and 3 of the five are very good at it.

Currently Mary-Rose, and Jenny (Suchanek) Becker are traing horses at home. Mike is training dressage horses for Leatherdale Farm near the Twincities. Alexis Kasper, a former student of Morning Glory Hill and a student from RCC in Rochester is also training out of our barn

Leona and Mary-Rose

Leona has been training horses since she was a young girl on her father's farm in South Dakota. When the family moved here from South Dakota to Owatonna, Leona would help her Father at Gainey Arabians located on the outskirts of Owatonna. Leona remembers a time when no one who worked at the farm could go out and catch some of the horses. Her father told Leona- Leona, go out and catch those horses for us. Sure enough, Leona was able to catch the horses her father asked her to. Leona has a very natural way of interacting with the horse and becoming the “herd leader”. Leona does not believe in rough handling the horse or beating the horse into submission. She has a very light & natural way of horse training.

Mary-Rose: started riding before she could walk. Her mom would put her on top of a horse while she did chores, this was to keep her distracted. It wasn't long after, that her mom discovered she could climb her way down the horses leg. Mary-Rose had no fear of the horses then and still doesn't. Mary-Rose was a successful competitor in gaming competitions around Southern Minnesota. Mary-Rose has 15 years experience with horses. She is experienced in starting horses all the way to training to a desired discipline. She, like her Mother & siblings, does not believe in harsh methods. In the past 11-12 years she has been raising and training 25-30 horses and ponies for the family farm and clients. She has experience in not only horse training but also caring for their health. She does a lot of ground work to make the horse trust her & make them safe to handle on the ground. She then starts by joining up with the horse and progresses to having a good connection with the horse when she starts riding them. Her centered riding discipline can be used to advance to any style or discipline. She has gamed, showed pleasure, trail riding, ranch rodeo, 4-H, saddle club, etc.
